Our eyes are not sensitive to infrared radiation, or at least we can't decipher it with the naked eye, but digital sensors can, and this causes some problems. In order to approximate the image seen by the human eye, digital cameras are usually equipped with an IR block filter to prevent the image from looking unnatural. This filter is called an IR-CUT Filter.

In practice it is sometimes necessary to allow infrared wavelengths in the IR while blocking visible light. They are often used in infrared photography to pass infrared light and block visible and ultraviolet light. These filters appear black to the naked eye, but are transparent when viewed with infrared sensing equipment. These filters are called IR Pass Filter
